Weather channel green blobs

So, I do like the Weather Channel...just for the local forecast and the occassional glance at the country; keeps thing in perspective. (Storm Stories creep me out.) Anyway, it struck me yesterday that those green rain globs might be causing an endorphine rush in my wee brain. At first, I thought the opposite, as their imminent arrival might mean postponed or cancelled plans, but now I see that a)knowledge is power, and b) rain is good. And their choice of green was inspired. I'm sure they argued over the ghoulish aspect of green blobs, but the hint of green grass and flower growth is perfect.

Pratchett town

Just turn left at Treacle Mine Road. Asking for directions at the Kingwell Rise housing development in Wincanton took on an added fictional element when the Somerset town unveiled road and street names taken from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.

The Guardian reported that Pratchett was on hand Sunday to celebrate the unveiling, "and was greeted by hundreds of fans--many dressed in costume."

"I think it's a lovely idea, even though it makes my head spin to think of the books becoming a little closer to reality," he said. "And they are nice names, even though I say it myself. Personally, I'd pay good money to live somewhere called Treacle Mine Road."

I only just got HBO...I know, how did I live without the Sopranos? (Just fine, thanks.) BUT...OMG!!!....No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency is FANTASTIC. My expectations were high, as I loved the book, and if I may be uncharacteristically immodest, I helped discover the book back when. Barbara Peters of Poisoned Pen told me about this wonderful mystery set in Botswana from a university press (Chicago or Columbia, i forget) and I used all my 'votes' as Book Sense Pick picker and put it on our list...and the rest is history, as they say.
