A Fan

Dear Carl,

There's nothing more challenging than a stack of papers to grade, both mentally and physically. How many comments should one make, especially if a paper is lacking in every category? I've found that one positive comment is a must; but I've also found that one keen instructional criticism is enough, too. More than that discourages more than helps. But, yes, you're going to have to stop along the way and clean up the mess e.g., punctuation, grammar, spelling, paragraphing, and the all-nasty clarity problems.

But, hey, better you than me.
