awesome...not

I'm pretty sick of hearing of 'banana muffins' as being "awesome," or "awesome" as the reply to everything from 'see you later' to 'how was your weekend?'  World peace would be awesome. The rest of it is not.

This is one of those sayings that just won't die, and as a former Valley Girl wannabee, I'm as guilty as the next person in keeping it alive. But I'm stunned when I hear young people using it. Last week I met my daughter's new preschool teacher and every other word from his mouth was "awesome." Makes me realize how silly I sound!

Awesome post, Carl! ;)

I've always shyed away from descriptive terms that my grandparents wouldn't understand. But "awesome" has grounding in the oldest generations, it's been around forever and is practically a staple of the language, so I decided long ago that it was acceptable. That said, I see your point. I kind of like "banana muffins" as a possible replacement.

Example:

"Hey, how was your weekend?"

"Banana muffins."
