I am hearing a lot more lately about paper waste in the book biz, and we must be conscientious, but really, our culture needs more books not fewer, and certainly the first place to start saving would be on the obscene glut of celeb magazines, no? Next: beauty mags. After that: fashion mags. Less Lohan, more rainforest; less Britney, more literature, please.
Stores power up customers with caffeine, and even put out bowls of water for pups in hot weather, but this news via our friends at Shelf Awareness is terrific: Knowledge Tree Bookstore, Stuart, Fla., is ready to fill up both customers' minds and electric cars. TCPalm.com reported that an electric vehicle charging station has been installed at the bookshop: starting this week, a trio of heavy-duty wall sockets in the bookstore's rear outside wall will be available for public use. Knowledge Tree Bookstore is also co-sponsoring an Alternative Energy Festival on Saturday, September 15.
