A fun little bit of, well, fun. THIS LITTLE PIGGY GOES TO PRADA: Nursery Rhymes for the Blahnik Brigade by Amy Allen. Classic nursery rhymes have been charmingly rewritten by Amy Allen, so that "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" now reads: Twinkle, twinkle, diamond ring/In a blue box tied with string.
A long but fun evening, with Fran Leibowitz's signature sarcastic humor keeping it all in perspective. She even got a putdown in at the bar beforehand. I had no intention of stalking her but an editor friend introduced us and the only thing I could think to say was that we had met years ago at the Books & Co. . She said "Ah, I remember it vividly." Good one! Anyway, we were sad that one of our 3 nominees didn't win but are happy for those that did, esp. Tim Egan, whose earlier book, The Good Rain, is one of my all-time favorites, and Richard Powers, whose Gold Bug Variations we actually have on our backlist.

Thankfully, A Child's Anthology of Poetry collects splendid poems instead, and if you read it, you are likely to become a splendid person who will never be abandoned. At least, that is what I am hoping." -Lemony Snicket
